What is covered
New outboard motors carry the manufacturer’s warranty in full. We are an authorised seller, so your cover comes direct from Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda or Mercury and is honoured at any of their service centres — not only by us.
| Item | Cover |
|---|---|
| New outboard motors | Manufacturer’s warranty, typically 3 years recreational use |
| Used outboard motors | Our own limited warranty, stated on the product page |
| Lower units and rigging | 90 days against defects |
| Parts and accessories | As supplied by the manufacturer |
Commercial use usually carries a shorter term. If the motor is going into commercial service, tell us before you buy and we will confirm the term that applies.
Registering a new motor
We register new motors with the manufacturer at the point of sale and send you the confirmation. Keep it: it is what proves your start date.
Used motors
Every used motor is inspected and compression tested before listing. The warranty term is shown on the product page — read it there, because it varies by motor. It covers the powerhead and lower unit against failure, not wear items or cosmetic condition.
What is not covered
- Normal wear — impellers, anodes, spark plugs, filters, lubricants
- Damage from grounding, collision, submersion or freezing
- Running the wrong fuel or oil, or fuel left to go stale
- Missed scheduled servicing, or servicing done outside the schedule
- Corrosion from saltwater use without proper flushing
- Any modification, or fitting a non-approved propeller or control
- Motors used commercially when sold for recreational use
Keeping your warranty valid
Three things, and they are what most claims turn on:
- Service to the manufacturer’s schedule and keep the receipts.
- Flush with fresh water after every saltwater run.
- Use the fuel and oil grades in the owner’s manual.
Making a claim
Email support@jacobengines.com with your order number, the motor’s serial number, what has happened and photographs. We will tell you within two business days whether it is a manufacturer claim or ours, and who to take it to.
Do not have repairs done before you speak to us. Unauthorised repairs are the most common reason a claim gets refused.
